Julian is a creative executive, executive producer, and entertainment consultant, specialising in large-scale entertainment projects and startups. He has overseen the development of multiple world-class creative initiatives, driving the evolution of abstract ambitions into concrete roadmaps to creative and financial success. He was the Executive Producer of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Ceremonies, and is currently the executive producer of multiple large-scale permanent entertainment projects, and large-scale suspended artworks.
Commencing as an indie video creator and event manager, he left Australia in 2009 and spent 9 years travelling the world, producing international one-off mega-events across four continents — including the Executive Production of the Rio2016 Olympic Ceremonies (two years in Brazil), the 2010 Mexican Bicentenary celebrations (two years onsite in Mexico), the Sochi2014 ceremonies, the Turkmenistan 2011 and 2017 Ceremonies, the 2011 Rio de Janeiro Military Games ceremonies, the San Diego Balboa Park Centenary, and the London2012 Flag Handover.
In 2018 he became the Special Projects Producer of Balich Wonder Studio in Milan, tasked with expanding the company's product range beyond events and ceremonies. Over the next seven years he built the Destination Experience Unit with the Executive President — a 30-person internal team developing permanent entertainment projects including resident theatre shows, mega-artwork installations, theme park entertainment, and mixed-use real estate developments. Each project saw his team paired with world-leading creatives, producers and multidisciplinary specialists to nurture concept development into feasible, actionable, massive projects, accompanying their journey to the public.
After 10 years with Marco Balich at Balich Wonder Studio, Julian became an independent entertainment executive and consultant, offering executive and creative production services to creatives and companies developing their boldest ideas into reality. He is also developing KidPlay with longtime collaborator Matt Danner — a gaming venture focused on relationship-driven co-play between parents and their kids.
Since leaving Australia he has lived in Mexico, Brazil, England, the USA and Italy, and worked in many others. He speaks four languages.
Yet despite their audacity they all tend to have a similar shape when you stand back far enough. When trying something bold, the bubble pipeline approach gives the required space for ideas to find themselves — with the granularity to ensure a common vision and vocabulary between everyone making it real.

Engaged with each nation's local production teams to mine and consolidate knowledge pockets into a versatile internal workflow — rigid enough to allow cross-country knowledge sharing yet fluid enough to adapt to local laws, cultures and each team's expertise.

Conception, Design, Delivery & Activation of Lusail's now-famous Icon, creating its enduring identity in time for the 2022 World Cup.
The 20-ton, 30m long structure was designed, engineered, constructed, freighted, assembled, installed and lifted into position in an impossible 16 weeks.
In addition to the significant creative and technical challenges that arose in creating this Icon within the timeframe, the negotiation process for hanging the 20-ton artwork from the structural columns of the surrounding skyscrapers required significant expedited negotiation.

Triumphant Olympic Opening ceremonies showcasing the Olympic values of sustainability, equality and diversity in a since unseen moment of global unity.
I moved to Rio de Janeiro two years before the ceremonies to become the principal touchpoint for Executive Producer Marco Balich during initial creative and production development of both ceremonies.
In addition to general management of the ceremonies, special projects included managing the IOC, Olympic Cauldron design & creation, Tokyo2020, NBC & rights-holding broadcasters, and the creation and communication of the 'Athletes' Forest', created by the seeds planted by all Rio2016 Olympians during their arrival at the Athletes' Parade.

Project, Artistic and Technical oversight of immersive show spaces in upcoming phases of the Luxury Park.
Eager to expand the narrative of Wonder Bay's 'Wonder Creatures' throughout the expanded theme park, we developed creative proposals and technical direction on how to create rich atmosphere and live activations in the most immersive spaces.
To accompany the park's multi-phase roll-out, creative development and technical infrastructure of each space is being forecast to activate in stages - initially with pre-programmed content activations, followed by full-cast performances once the full park experience is open to the public.

One year of pre-production included designing and constructing a bespoke 40m-deep central lift shaft, a 35m high central ring and projection cylinder, and a complex network of inner tunnels and lifts.

Creative redevelopment of Europe's most popular sports attraction, rewarding aficionados and welcoming the unfamiliar through timeless emotions and smart use of new technologies.
To accompany the reconstruction of Bernabéu stadium, Real Madrid requested a new creative and commercial approach to the audience experience for visiting the stadium on non-match days, learning the history and discovering the hallowed spaces.
BWS conceived of a new creative approach to the stadium tour following the linear narrative concept of a match's own story arc - commencing in the manager's office, following the players through training, arriving to the stadium and making their way to the pitch.
To make a cutting edge proposal we engaged the Mill Experience to propose how new technologies could deliver the storytelling and partnered with EY to find a ticketing strategy that could secure profitability.

While never approved, the project caused great impact on the development of the CityLife region and the vision for the area, and has been kept as an important benchmark for its rich conceptual and design approach.
To justify the significant upfront investment a sophisticated capex & opex model of the project was developed, informed by detailed audience benchmarking for footfall and pricing.
